1. Coordinate cultural activities with other scheduled youth activities in conjunction with treatment.
2. Coordinate the development of an annual cultural plan.
3. Ensure that all essential safety precautions are enforced throughout each activity.
4. Keep a record of patient’s participation in activities.
5. Coordinate the provision of internal and external cultural resources for the benefit of youth in treatment.
6. Provide reports to internal and external departments and agencies as directed.
7. Purchase supplies and materials to further the objectives of the cultural program.
8. Attend training when requested.
9. Provide information necessary for program budget development.
10. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an in depth understanding and knowledge of Native American tribal cultures especially in the practice of the Sweat Lodge.
Must possess skills in cultural arts and traditional plant harvesting such as: making moccasins, drums, drum sticks, shawls, jewelry, basket weaving, beading (various styles), flat bags, tule mats, art, root digging, cedar bark and root harvesting, xas xas (bear root), river sage, etc…
Ability to educate and train others in Native American cultural belief systems.
Ability to plan and implement cultural activities.
Ability to obtain external resources for the benefit of patients and staff.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills.
Must exhibit an understanding of adolescent behaviors in a treatment setting.
Must be able to formulate and implement cultural based therapeutic curriculum.
Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Prefer knowledge and skill in drumming and singing.
Prefer experience working with Chemical Dependency treatment for adolescents.
